“As we come to the end of 2023, it’s been an eventful year for the pharmacy profession.

Further advancements in the scope of practice of pharmacists in multiple states has seen more patients access more primary healthcare from their local pharmacy including antibiotics for uncomplicated urinary tract infections and the oral contraceptive for women, with more to come.

This year also saw the introduction of 60-day dispensing which is significant reform to the PBS.

The Pharmacy Guild strongly believes that medicines should be more affordable for patients but it must be done sustainably with the pharmacy sector and there’s more work to be done.

This includes lowering patient copayments and ensuring sustainable funding for community pharmacies through the 8th Community pharmacy agreement to deliver National Medicines Policy.

The Guild will never stop advocating for our patients and members. Not now. Not ever.

Happy and safe New Year to all of our hard working pharmacy teams and their families – and we look forward to 2024 being a bigger and better year for patient care.”
